                                     A Struggle that Reveals Who Really the Genuine Friends

         We lobbied for our salary teachers last Nov. 14 Friday. We held a sit down strike in the classrooms all over Bacolod and some parts in Negros Occidental. Teachers were in their classrooms wearing red t-shirts as  symbols of militancy and protest for inaction of the government to raise teachers' pay to a living wage pay.

         Prior to our sit down strike, series of radio interviews and tv interviews were conducted to persuade and inform the teachers. Teacher leader sent letters to principals and supervisors asking their understanding and support.

        Now came Friday, the sit down strike day. The day started with another TV interview to teacher leaders in one of the schools in Bacolod. Teachers were wearing red t-shirts. The strike went smoothly . Media people interviewed again the teacher leaders.

         At 10AM, some teachers were texting (sending short cellphone message)that their supervisors or principals were pressuring them to change their red t-shirts. Some were put in a list for wearing red t-shirt. Teachers were discouraged to join the sit down strike and the march rally at 4PM.
           This actuation of some supervisors and principals angered the teachers. They said that they always cooperated with their education bosses but why in the struggle for salary increase, their bosses abandoned them. If demand for salary increase be realized later, the bosses will also have the biggest pay raise because they have already received higher pay.
         This event gave lesson to everyone. Your true friend will be unmasked if the struggle becomes intense and with consequence. That event also separated the boys from men and  girls from women. This also show who are the opportunists and who are the traitors. 
           Nevertheless, teachers are resolved to continue their struggle until the achieve victories because they know that they have nothing to rely on except their own unity.

      Happy New Year everyone!

      This is January 1, 2013 and it's appropriate to hope and pray for the year ahead--2014. I personally hope and pray that all countries of the world will be prosperous and peaceful. I hope that no rich country would take advantage of smaller poor countries. I pray that war will be minimized if not totally stop.
      I'm looking for 2014 as a year that natural calamities are at their lowest level. Here in our country, Philippines, we already fed up the destruction brought by typhoon Yolanda, earthquake in Bohol, and siege of Moro National Liberation Front in Zamboanga City. Those were the bad experiences we had in 2013.
      I hope that 2014 is peaceful for our country all countries in the world. We, Filipinos have something to worry if war, disaster, and disease occur in any part of the world. We have deployed the more than 10 million Overseas Filipino Workers who earn foreign currencies for our always ailing economy.Our OFWs would adversely be affected if something had happened in any part of the globe.
      Personally, I hope and pray that I could overcome the negative thoughts that I have over myself. I was so hypochondriac, always afraid and imagine I was ill, in 2013. Until today, I have still that feeling and negativism. I hope I could overcome it to positivism in 2014. I hope that I could also finish my dissertation. I need to finish my Ph.D. This endeavor gives me a frantic nerves. But what can I do? I hope to upgrade myself. We're living now in a rat race age  and those who do not upgrade of themselves have  their peace of mind but not of their capabilities in their work.
       I hope that the world will not end in 2014. I already read and heard that there are many prophets of doom who already give their psychic predictions about the end of the world. I hope they're wrong again because if they're right then, we should all stop all our plans and ambitions. I know only the Supreme Deity knows when the world will end. For people who are depressed and lost their loved ones, the world has already ended.
      I hope and pray that all of us here will always have good health for the rest of 2014 thus we'll each other again in January 2015.Amen.
